Impregilo to Build New Railway Lines

As part of a grouping with Astaldi and Ghella, Impregilo is to construct two new railway lines in Venezuela, for an overall value of 2.2 billion dollars.

Additional assignments worth 1.5 billion dollars on the construction contract for the Puerto Cabello-La Encrucijada line, on which work has already begun, brings the total value of railway contracts awarded in Venezuela to 3.7 billion dollars.

The works come under the intergovernmental agreements between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and Italy. They assign construction of the two new railway sections, the San Juan de los Morros-San Fernando de Apure line (252 km) and the Chaguaramas-Cabruta line (201 km), to the group of Italian companies.

The grouping, in which each of the three companies holds a 33.33% share, will complete work on the two lines in 76 months. Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2006, as soon as the contracts have been signed.
