Mott MacDonald to build a power station in Barbados

Mott MacDonald has been awarded a contract by The Barbados Light & Power Company Limited to design and manage a new 60MW power station development.

The new US$100 million plant, to be located on a greenfield site on the north side of Barbados, will be based on either slow-speed reciprocating engine or combined cycle gas turbine technology. It is being designed in light of the Barbados Government’s outline plans to introduce natural gas fuel via a new submarine pipeline or Barge from Trinidad and Tobago. The main fuel to be used will be either natural gas or heavy fuel oil.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2006 with completion scheduled for October 2008.
