More than 67, 500 Mississippi residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina are now living in 25, 000 emergency housing units installed and readied for occupancy by Bechtel National, Inc. under contract to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Bechtel's work on FEMA's disaster relief efforts is employing nearly 3, 000 people, mostly from Mississippi and other Gulf states. To date, 50 percent of Bechtel's subcontracts have been awarded to firms in Mississippi and 62 percent to firms in the Gulf region. Nearly 84 percent of all Bechtel subcontracts have been awarded to small businesses.
