Business Leaders To Meet At The 5th Rebuilding Iraq Conference

Karen Durham-Aguilera, the director of the $12 billion Iraq Relief and Reconstruction Fund, will talk to business leaders about the role of the Project and Contracting Office in ongoing improvements to Iraq's infrastructure at the 5th Rebuilding Iraq Conference in Washington, DC, December 1-2, 2005.

PCO reconstruction includes 22 hospital renovations to help improve access to quality healthcare. There are also five expanded health care centers and 142 new primary health care centers planned.

Other PCO work includes 800 school renovations, educational and training academies, improvements in essential services for water treatment and water supply, electricity and more. According to Durham-Aguilera, more than 2, 800 projects have started and nearly 1, 600 completed, with much of the work being contracted directly to Iraqi companies.

The conference will also feature Jasim Mohamad Jaffar, the Iraqi Minister of Construction and Housing, along with other Iraqi government and business officials eager to form partnerships with companies from the United States and elsewhere in the world.

The 2-day event is open to all interested businesses and organizations from all countries. Other parts of the conference program will focus on public health, public safety, security issues, contracting and subcontracting opportunities, funding, project management, international cooperation, and cultural training.
